Have you ever been guilty of allowing thoughts of a negative nature to overwhelm you? Have you ever enabled these thoughts to turn into a negative thinking pattern? Has this ever then created a self-fulfilling prophecy? It is completely natural to have several thoughts, some positive others not so, about different aspects of your working life but when these have become unhealthy and are stopping you from being authentic then it’s time to act.

Worse yet, have your thoughts stopped you advancing in your job, or in a relationship or within a professional situation? As common as this behaviour is, the impact it has can sometimes be crippling, more so when we allow this to become a repeating pattern.

We are all guilty of standing in the way of our own success at times, doubts can creep in …

“Am I capable?” “What will they think?” “Can I do this?”

This is a normal part of our thinking but without awareness then over time will create a self-fulfilling prophecy. When you follow a thought to the extent it becomes a negative pattern the crippling behaviour can follow suit.

So, instead …

Can you imagine what your working life would be like if you didn’t just attend a meeting because it was put in your diary, but went in there with a positive and open mind?

Can you imagine what your working life would be like if you didn’t consider endings a failure but embraced the new opportunities they brought?

Can you imagine what your working life would be like if you didn’t keep believing you were ‘winging it’ and had confidence in your abilities?

Can you imagine what your working life would be like if you didn’t put things off until next week but looked at these tasks as priorities and believed that you could do them with confidence?

Once we allow ourselves to put a stop to our negative thinking patterns, we can and will notice a positive change. Often fear is what stops us advancing and that fear is fuelled by our negative thinking patterns.

We have control and choice in our working lives, and we need to be reminded of that as it’s so easy for the organisational system to overwhelm and suggest exactly the opposite. With coaching you gain the time and the tools to combat these patterns. You will notice and bring these fears into the foreground where they can be put in perspective or reframed.
